[net.religion] What is God doing Today?

mark@altos86.UUCP (05/28/83)

Instead of argueing over how God created the Universe, or whether or not He
was crucified and resurected at some point in the past, why don't we turn
the discussion to what God is doing TODAY.

I would like to see some questions answered on the net:

    What is God doing TODAY?
    What is His purpose TODAY?
    How is He accomplishing it?

Please feel free to post responses to this newsgroup. If you don't belive in
God, then PLEASE don't tell us that he can't be doing anything cause he doesn't
exist (If you don't have any interest in religion, why not unsubscribe?).

If you believe that the Bible is the Word of God, then by all means include
any quotes you deem relevant (mention which version though).

You ask athiests not to butt into your proposed discussion of what God
is doing these days, since we don't believe in God at all, and it would
be boring to read about how, since god doesn't exist, it can't be doing
anything. I agree. I won't.

However, you also ask why we ("who don't have interest in religion")
don't just unsubscribe. My dear sir or madam. If we weren't
interested in religion, we wouldn't be here. I have two major reasons
to be interested in religion. The first is that, like it or not (and
quite often I most emphatically do NOT like it) religion has had a
major effect on history and continues to be part of the influences
shaping our society. The second is that I am interested in other
people's religious beliefs.

Besides, if I wasn't interested in religion, I'd be an agnostic.

Now wait a minute, I am an agnostic, and I am very interested
in religion. While I think that Christianity is all flaky, and I do have
some thoughts on First Cause that atheistic thinking can't quite solve,
that doesn't mean I ain't interested...

Thank you. Now maybe we can talk about something interesting and stop
flaming each other.(Myself included.)

What is God doing today. Well, people, as is shown here, believe in him,
so He must be doing something for them. I have a hard time defining exactly
what He does in my life. I guess He is a crutch. No, I don't lean on Him
all the time, but I do turn to Him when I need Him, so He is a crutch in
that sense.
His purpose in my life is to help me to get through my life. My life is
not a burden to me. I really injoy living. But I, like everyone, have
my problems, and I sometimes need help which only He can give me. While
this is not tangible, it is nonetheless help.

I don't by what method God helps me, but He does. Maybe it isn't that He
does anything as much as praying makes me feel better. But in order not
to belittle what I believe, I think He just listens, and that comforts me.

I know that this is not very specific, but I have no miracles to report.

Would some agnostic care to explain for the benefit of those who don't know
what an agnostic is and what the First Cause is.
