[net.religion] 'Re: What is God doing today?'

I too would very much like to hear more from Christians about
what God is doing today. This is not to say that I dislike subjects
such as evolution vs. creationism -- I am merely saying that these
discussions can sometimes generate more heat than light, particularly
when someone who knows very little about science tries to argue with
someone who knows very little about God's miracle working power.
(For the record, I am a creationist -- largely because I had the
privilege of studying science in college under several PhDs who
were outstanding scientists as well as outstanding Christians.
But that's a whole different story and the subject for another
article.)

I have witnessed a number of outstanding miracles (yes, I use the
word advisedly) among my own family, church members and Christian
friends here at Tektronix. I hope to share these in some detail in
a future article. Perhaps this will encourage other Christians on
the net to share their experiences as well.

Even though I don't particularly enjoy getting flamed at by atheists
who doubt the validity of the miracles I have and will describe, I
still would not want to see them leave the net. They too are part
of God's creation and are most deserving of our love, our friendship,
and our prayers -- albeit not our emulation (Christ is our example).

With regard to what God is doing, I recently heard Dr. Pat Robertson,
President of the Christian Broadcasting Network, state that their
organization has witnessed literally tens of thousands of miraculous
answers to prayer. Lest this be taken as a "gross exaggeration by
some fanatic fundamentalist preacher", I am including a footnote
describing CBN and its founder Pat Robertson [1]. (This is not a
commercial, though I must say that they are one of the most respected
and innovative Christian broadcasting organizations in the world.)

Again, I want to encourage the "net.Christians" to share any
outstanding personal experiences that substantiate the reality of a
loving God who hears and answers prayer. This, more than endless
discussions about theology, will help to convey how and why it is
that Christians can say:

          "IN GOD WE TRUST"

Thank you and God bless you!

[1] Pat Robertson is the son the late Sen. Robertson (U.S. Senator
from Virginia for 20 years). After a stint in the Marines and a degree
from Yale Law School, Pat was well on his way to climbing the corporate
ladder to success -- at least by the world's standards. At about this
time, however, God intervened in Pat's life and he committed his life
to Christ. Quite to the dismay of some of Pat's family and associates,
he felt the call to the ministry -- which involved completing a seminary
degree and even giving away most of his personal belongings to minister
to the poor around him. It was during this period, some 22 years ago,
that Pat felt the calling to found the Christian Broadcasting Network.
Today, CBN has gained the respect of both Christian and secular audiences,
though it portrays a view of the world not presented by the other networks.

The "flagship" program of CBN is "The 700 Club", a 90-minute daily TV
program featuring interviews with prominent Christians, as well as documen-
taries and news clips covering current events. Interviews with government
officials and journalists are also featured. CBN is carried on most
cable systems around the country, as well as on a number of UHF stations.
They also broadcast 24 hours a day on satellite, to the benefit of those
who have their own "dish".

For those persons who have access to viewing "The 700 Club", I think
you would find it to be a very interesting program. As an example,
Dr. Richard Eby -- a Christian physician who was clinically dead for a
number of hours -- was recently interviewed. The visit to Paradise that
Dr. Eby experienced during those hours was a life-changing experience.
(I later went to see Dr. Eby in person and the story he related was even
more compelling. I have one of his books, and also a VHS video cassette
of his interview on the 700 Club, for anyone at Tektronix who might be
interested.)
