I hope I can be excused for posting a note to net.religion that probably should be in net.politics, but here goes: The obvious reason to call the Holy Land the Holy Land is that many people do not consider the occupied West Bank of the Jordon (which includes some parts of Jerusalem, the Holy City) to be part of Israel. In fact, the US government still supports the returning of that area to Jordan (or a semi-autonomous Palestinian State). Unlike Andy Tannenbaum, I don't think the use of Holy Land is meant as an offense to Jews, although it probably may be taken as an insult by Mr. Begin. not trying to offend anyone, Frank Fite, houxa!fdf, BTL
