[net.religion] 'The B.O.M'

Personally gang, I really don't know what the squabble
is all about. Why don't we just put it down to different
religious beliefs. But my question is this - Why is it
always the Mormons (LDS) who are always being 'picked' on.
Why don't we pick apart the origins of the Baptists, Lutherans,
7th Day Advenists (?), Catholics.

If you don't believe it - fine (believe me it won't keep
me up at nights). And on the other hand if you do believe
it - fine again.

Why can't everyone just relax, take a deep breath, hold it
for a while, release it then when everyone is calm have a
calm, rational discussion on all religions (yes, folks there
are other religions out there with even stranger origins
than the Mormons).

If anyone can answer my question, previously stated in
this humble article, I would appreciate it. I've often
wondered.

			I'm Mormon and I'm normal (?),

I think perhaps the reason people try to pick apart the
Mormons' origins is that the religion began very recently.
For most of us, a religion which has its origins 2000, or
1300, or even 400 years ago is so far back that we don't question
the history as much.

Quite happy with my own (old) religion and not expressing any
opinion on the Mormons,

I don't think this newsgroup is picking on Mormons per se; rather, it
takes turns picking on everyone. Some time ago, there was a rather long
debate about the historical basis (or lack thereof) of Christianity
itself. I suspect, though, that Mormons are attacked somewhat more because
(a) they're quite visible; (b) people know more about the history of the
church because it took place recently, and in this country.
