[net.religion] Some more thoughts on religious intolerance

reza@ihuxb.UUCP (08/24/83)

I have received a few replies to my article about religious intolerance.
What is interesting about most of them is that the writer agrees with
my thoughts on religious intolerance by giving examples of the prejudice
shown against his religion by another religion. I suppose this is
a natural reaction, especially after re-reading my own article.

Another reply told me that the Muslim view of Jesus ( a prophet )
is fundamentally different from the Christian belief that he is the
Son of God, and therefore Islam can not really be a "follow-up"
religion to Christianity. Well I think you missed the point. The
point was that why would Islam mention Jesus in Qoran and praise him
as a prophet if "what Islam stands for is hatred of Jesus Christ"?
Even if Islam and Christianity differ on such a big issue ( which you
might claim is the backbone of Christianity ), does it entitle either
faith to attack the other one?

The problem with people like Jimmy Swaggart is that they spread
hatred. And that eventually will result in what they claim exists
now. When a Christian hears that Muslim hate his beloved Jesus, he is
bound to hate them back, their religion, their belief, their culture
and all. What do you think the reaction of Muslims would be to this?

P.S. The one thing I did not expect to receive was hate mail.
Hopefully I will control myself and not give him the pleasure of a
reply.
