In the heat of the arguments over what should/should't be taught in schools, a real opportunity is being missed here. What SHOULD be taught (or rather, illuminated) is the CONTROVERSY and how people will relentlessly defend their points of view. The correctness of either doctrine (creation/evolution) is at best interesting, but it is not significant. How people hold their viewpoints and how they argue (and ultimately attempt to destroy others) is an invaluable lesson of human existence. That is the reality of our life. I suspect children learn more about life from teachers who are on strike than when they are in the classroom. All the "facts" that are taught are so much nonsense when taught purely as facts.
