This article is the second in a series of replies to my poll on Article
Length in net.religion. As accurately as possible, I am trying to reflect
the comments people sent me. Often, the comments may apply to other
questions. Some redundant observations have been omitted (some haven't):
Some people did not (perceptibly) answer properly. The question was:
2 - Do you save longer articles for "later", or just dispose of them?
My interpretation of the results, along with some associated comments is:
Yes - 6:
- I often save them for later. The other thing I do is wait to see
if I have time to send a response on longer articles. Shorter ones
are more likely to get a response from me.
- I normally print my news, and then read it like a newspaper. I can
save a long one till tomorrow if necessary.
- I sometimes print out longer articles for later reading.
- I save longer articles for later perusal, but only if the
subject/author have special meaning or importance for me.
No - 6:
- If it is longer, I tend to dispose of it, but that is dependent on
the subject.
Qualified Answer - 4:
- Only Saves AI-List digests.
- Only keep 10% of long articles.
- Occasionally, mostly if there is a chance I'll respond, even though
I rarely do.
- This depends upon my reason for passing up the message at this time.
If I have skipped it because I am tired, I will always save it, but
if it is because it is uninteresting, I will n-key it away. If I
find myself saving something for later several times in a row, I
will delete it.
Vague - 2:
Editor's comments: It looks like it is rather evenly split. I personally save
many things in many ways. Some articles are saved for later by using the "e"
command. This is often done at home because I would prefer to read the
article at 9600 baud, or at work because I don't have time to read it until I
get home -- or wish to save it for the weekend. I also use "e" to save an
article I wish to respond to. If It stays around too long, I dispose of it.
Some articles are saved in files for archiving/printing. Many of these
eventually get removed/cremated. Typically these are articles in net.news.map
and net.sources -- not net.religion. All articles I have ever written are
saved (to give some protection from future flamers who twist my words). A few
articles are saved by mailing them to someone who does not read the news,
but may be informed/amused by a tidbit I send.
Answers to the next three questions will follow ASAP
