[net.religion] LAST one in a series of... Tim"s mail

tim@unc.UUCP (11/08/83)

Well, if that was meant to be an apology for that gratuitous public insult,
it is accepted. I have just looked through my mail backlog, and I find no
letters from anyone at site ccieng2; in fact, that string appears nowhere in
the entire file.

The simple fact is that there ARE NO RELIABLE MAIL OR NEWS PATHS TO OR FROM
UNC! This summer was particularly bad; much mail and news was completely
dropped forever by duke and decvax. This fall has been better, but not that
much. (I am not faulting our links -- they are overloaded.) Thus, I
started seeing articles like "Hey, how come I haven't seen anything from Tim
Maroney since Gene's poll branded him the biggest idiot on the net?" Well,
I hadn't reduced the frequency of my submissions much, but very little news
was coming in or going out through duke.

In any case, here is how to reach me. Try mail first, through decvax and
duke, e.g., decvax!duke!unc!tim. If there is no reply, try again after two
weeks (or sooner if you're close). If there's still no reply, try one last
time with mail. Then try posting an article to some group that you know I
read, with subject line "To Tim Maroney, the scumbag". That is certain to
make me read it if it gets here. In the article, explain what's happened
and plead with me to get in touch with you with a reliable path. If that
doesn't work, please don't burden the net with further articles. I'm afraid
you'll have to give up, but this approach should work.

Contrary to popular mythology, there is NO cornell-unc link. I don't know
where people got that idea, but it is wrong. DO NOT send mail to
cornell!unc!tim under any circumstances. Sometimes it finds its way here
eventually, but I'm sure that sometimes it doesn't.

Sorry to use the news for this, but I imagine that ccieng2!kfk was not the
only one who was suffering under these delusions. By the way, if any other
backbone sites want to call us, we'd love it, and it's the only way to be
sure of getting all the articles from Pam, Bruce, Byron, and myself.
