[net.religion] Taking responsibility for one's own life

crane@fortune.UUCP (John Crane) (01/10/84)

While I agree with much of the so-called "born again" Christianity, there
are a couple of points I don't agree with.

(1) The assumption that any group who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ
exactly the same way they do isn't Christian. This would include the
Catholics, old-line Protestants, Mormons (the Church of JESUS CHRIST of
Latter Day Saints), CHRISTIAN Scientists, JEHOVAH's witnesses, etc. That's
like somebody saying if you don't use UNIX on a Fortune System (free plug),
then you're not using the "true" version of UNIX.

(2) I disagree with the idea that God could or does totally control one's
life. I believe that God gives us our life as a stewardship. What we do
with it is largely up to us. How about in the parable of the talents. The
master didn't double the talents, the servants went and doubled their own
talents.

I know you guys are going to spew scriptures back at me for this. Save
your breath. I have already read them many times. I'm not telling you
that you are wrong. I am merely saying that I, and I hope a lot of other
people, disagree.
