? Many people have advised me (and others) to "read the Bible". Which Bible (or version thereof) do they mean? Are some better than others? My own preference is for the King James version - the beauty of the language in it is powerful. What do you out in net-land think? From the cinderblock palace of Pat Wilson ...!uvacs!paw

Pat, your question reminded me of a cute, but inane thing someone once said to a friend of mine, who is a from Israel and doesn't speak English very well: "How do you folks (Israelis) read the Bible if it's in English?" So, just be very careful whom you ask about what version of the Bible to read.

I've been told that the King James should be used for quoting, but I prefer the New International Version for my own reading and studying. Sometimes in the KJV there are phrases which are unclear to me, and it is good to have a Bible written in ordinary English so that I can understand what I am reading better. -- --greg ...decvax!genrad!mit-eddie!gds (uucp) Gds@XX (arpa)
