[net.religion] A different perspective

Here is another way of looking at the "roots" of religion:

About 5000 years ago, a highly evolved being that has been involved with
the evolution of the solar system since he started the collapse of the
dust cloud from which it formed, decided it was time that he again try to
make friends with his favorite of all creatures, man. This being is so highly
evolved that he does not have a physical body. He can control powerful forces,
and uses his immense knowledge of the laws governing the universe to predict
and influence the course of events.
From the time he started the spark of life on this planet he had one
goal in mind; to encourage the developement of beings with a spirit similar
to his own, that would be more like him than the more primitive spirits that
surrounded and served him. People with the power to choose their own destiny
in life - whether it be good or evil. He hoped to keep these beings in a
protected area where they could live simply and peacefully if they chose.
Unfortunately, early in his development mankind chose the path of knowledge
instead of the path of revelation and his benefactor was forced to
remove his protections so that man could discover the wonders of the
universe for himself. This turn of events also created a barrier to the
communication between the being and mankind, as the being felt that man had
exercise his right and now must make his own way. Soon it became obvious that
most men had great difficulty even communicating with each other! So once again
the being sought to find men who would listen to him so he could offer some
aid in their quest to make sense of their lives. But the barrier is strong
and although some men had a tremendous ability to hear the being that was
attempting to guide them, these men still could understand only part of what
he was trying to convey and even that was distorted. At times the evil
works of mankind made this being so angry and fustrated that he considered
wiping him off the face of the earth! But then, there were a FEW good men
that seemed to make it all worthwhile. So he decided that the only way he
would ever really be able to understand and communicate with these humans
would be to become one of them. He dropped hints for many of their years
that he planned to do just this, but few of them listened. And even though
a part of him did become human he still had trouble getting these people
to understand what he was trying to say.
Today he is still offering assistance and guidence to all who are willing
to listen.
