"Si Dieu n'existait pas, il faudrait l'inventer" Voltaire.

                         Agnostic

Pretty woman, thoughts of tomorrow terrify.
I would console, but boiling blood betrays
My purpose. You do not want my touch.
       I cannot help you.
       Only God can.

Ugly woman, you need a gift of roses,
A lilt of lightness to your step,
But why do I, instead, recoil?
       I cannot help you.
       Only God can.

Proud man, you want an affirmation,
       Appreciation of your splendid deeds,
But not from me, too small to pat your shoulder.
       I cannot help you.
       Only God can.

       Weak man, you need respect,
Support on which to fix your dignity,
       But snobbery rejects association.
       I cannot help you.
       Only God can.

And me, an ego puffed with pride,
So easily deflated by an unkind word,
       A mirror held in malice.
       I cannot help you.
       Only God can.

So very many things for God to do,
       And God does not exist.
Oh, Please! Please! Help me to invent him.
       Excuse my tears,
       I'm aching to invent him.
