It is of course easier to challenge a philosophical position than to defend it; and I don't have time to undertake a defense in depth of humanism (and possibly I don't have the skills, either). However, I find Mr. Brown's view of humanism, as stated in his challenge, considerably at variance with the beliefs I hold (and I consider myself a humanist, note small initial "h"), not to mention the various statements and "manifesto's" on the net. In particular, I don't see humanism as deifiing (sp?) anything (I think humanism is against deification and deities in general), and I don't see it as "ME oriented" or selfish particularly. -- David Dyer-Bennet -- ...decwrl!rhea!mrvax!ddb
