Mr. Martillo asserts without any reference that Bob Dylan said he sang Gospel music for the money. Without a source on this aren't we engaging in a little loose talk ? The economics of Dylan (nee Zimmerman) singing Gospel for the bucks escapes me. If you check the trade publications you will note the Rock Music Industry hauls in around $ 3 Billion per year. Said supporters of the industry have had an ongoing worshipful relationship with Mr. Dylan nigh onto 25 years (doing his secular material). Why would Mr. Dylan trade a potential $ 3 billion pie for the Gospel Music pie that comes in around $ 500 million. Besides in Gospel music Dylan cuts across fewer lines (i.e. his portion of the $ 3 billion audience is probably bigger than his portion of the $500 million audience.). Why ? I give him the benefit of the doubt that he sincerely sang what he believed at the time and the economics didn't influence him. You know he took a lot of critical heat for his stand for Jesus in the press and secular music business. If he has returned to his Jewish roots and turned away from Christianity, then I'm saddened to lose a fellow believer. I wish him well and appreciate a lot of his Christian Music.
