[net.religion] Contemporary Christian Music

ebs@mcnc.UUCP (Edward B. Stokes) (05/31/84)

Someone recently mentioned the so-called "Contemporary Christian
Music", and so I will gladly take this opportunity to expound.

My personal reaction is that CCM is generally nice music, and
often provides a welcome switch from the usual top 40 commercial
stations. My only complaint is that the station in my area which
features CCM (WAME, 1480 KHz, Charlotte) is AM, and the static
is as you would expect from an AM radio station.

My favorite artists so far in the CCM scene are Terry Talbot
(formerly of the rock group Mason Proffit; anyone remember them?)
and a band called Harvest.

New listeners be warned! You may have to check your CCM station
several times before you find music and not preaching. Don't give
up; once you find the music you'll be pleasently surprised.

One final note for net.religion: There is a show on WAME which
airs every afternoon from 4 to 5 PM, and claims to be broadcast
live and nationwide. It's called "Talk Back with Bob Larson".
Bob is a fundamentalist Christian who has a surprising tolerance
for other folks beliefs and the talk often gets interesting.
The format is that of a listener call-in talk show, with the
usual pleas for monetary support. It sometimes reminds me of
net.religion on the air. Check it out; I'd love to hear your
comments.

I'd rather be listening to bluegrass,
                               Eddie Stokes (....duke!mcnc!ebs)
