According to a news item today (6/28), the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill to allow student religious groups to meet in public high schools. I don't particularly care to judge the effects of that - it can be done either reasonably or badly - but I find the following comment (from the AP article) very interesting. The bill was approved: ...ignoring warnings of "bizarre cults" on school grounds that prompted the House to reject such a proposal. The attitude of the House, if we believe this news report, seems incredible. In effect, it says that they were afraid to grant religious groups the right to meet because they were afraid that the "wrong" groups would get to meet on public property. [Religious freedom for approved religious groups.
