For New England netters, there's an interesting article on the Sociable Atheists in today's (7/31/84) Boston Globe in the Living section. The Sociable Atheists are a social organization for people sharing atheist beliefs to do things together (hike, go whale watching, hold picnics, attend concerts) and to discuss common beliefs and issues, as well as provide mutual support in the often hostile environment of the US (a "religous country" as I've been pointedly told on a number of public occasions. The religiosity may be superficial and paranoid, but it's real enough as a general and rather coercive social pressure). I don't know how one contacts the group (or if they want this publicity). Other regions may have such groups. If not, it's probably an idea whose time has arrived. Cheers, Ron Rizzo
