[net.religion] net.religion.newage proposal

tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA (Tim Maroney) (11/07/84)

Since a recent message of mine objecting to the proposal to create
net.religion.pagan, preferring the more general net.religion.newage, I have
gotten a few messages supporting the creation of a New Age group. However,
my intention was not to start the process of wrangling that invariably
accompanies any such proposal, only to prevent the creation of a possibly
limited group. Since there does seem to be interest in the idea, let us
begin the wrangling and voting.

Do not send any votes to me. Because it may be difficult for some people to
figure out how to mail to me, I would be a poor choice for the tallier of
votes. Instead, let someone close to a USENET backbone appoint themselves
to this exalted office, announcing their intent to do so on net.news.group.

I personally know a few O.T.O. members who have long since unsubscribed to
net.religion because it contains so little material that truly bears on the
Path. My guess is that there are far more occultists/Wiccans/whatevers out
there, and that this group would provide a valuable forum for us. The votes
will tell.

If there is insufficient interest to warrant the creation of a new group,
then by all means let us create a real mailing list. I would be willing to
moderate, although again I might be a bad choice because mail to here from
uucp has to go through a gateway. Needless to say, Witches, Thelemites,
Masons, Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Bahai, Unitarians, Atheists,
Agnostics, Ubizmo worshippers, and whoever else is out there would be
welcome in such a list. The more angles the light shines from, the less
shadow obscures the object.

I will be happy to tally requests for net.religion.newage. I will also
be happy to collect and maintain a mailing list, if necessary.

It isn't hard to send mail to cmu-cs-k, 'cause it's only one hop away from
an ARPA/UUCP gateway (being on arpa).

Examples

ihnp4!ucbvax!tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA
ihnp4!seismo!tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA
decvax!decwrl!tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA

Surely some of you folks can find your way to one of {seismo, ucbvax, decwrl}.
