Are you guys implying that those of us who believe it is best to have sex only with one's spouse are hung up and inhibited? Now I'm *sure* no one has been peeking in our windows. :-) One of the most popular books on the subject is Tim and Beverly LaHaye's "The Act of Marriage". There are dozens of other Christian authored books in the same vein. Alan and Dave might want to check some of them out. They are clearly missing something here. Bob, Although, I do not have any evidence which would support the notion that either you or Paul are hypocritical (as defined above) on this matter, I will bet you any amount you like that many, many, many, so called "Christians" do fit the above definition when it comes to infidelity in marriage. And, I will also venture that many, many, many of these same "Christians" condemn non-Christians for that type of behavior. It is for this reason that I feel "Christians" are hypocritical. I have spent alot of my life around religious people. I can only think of two of these people who I do not consider to be hypocritical in their professed beliefs and actions. That is much, much less than 1%. So, although it is a generalization to say that religious people are hypocrites, based upon my observations, they are. The worst thing about it is that they often seem to feel as if they are "better" than non-Christians. Foo! To be sure, non-Christians can be hypocrites too, but as a whole, they are less hypocritical, not being bound to profess some belief, whether or not they truly believe it. Dave,
>From a theological standpoint, all those "religious" people
you've been exposed to, let's assume that they were really
Christians. Before the Judgement seat of Christ we(they)
will stand some hard judgement as their works are burned up
before them because they damaged those weak in the faith or
ran off unbelievers like yourself by our hypocritical ( literally
in the Greek - acting in a play) behavior.
However, unbelievers sometimes use perfection as a standard to
measure Christians and then when they don't measure up they
condemn us as hypocrites. (I'm not accusing Dave Holt of this !)
The cliche still is true "Christians are not perfect, just forgiven."
