[net.religion] net.religion.newage's still birth

tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA (Tim Maroney) (12/10/84)

All right, Byron has gotten 14 votes. That sounds like a good mailing list
core. If the participation and volume increase, we may start a gateway to a
new news group, but one never knows.

So anyone who wants to be on the New Age mailing list, send me your address.
The addresses below should suffice. I have not so far had success with
BITNET mail, although CSNET, ARPA, and UUCP sites are no problem (although I
would appreciate a reasonably good path, with backbones, for uucp
addresses). Send an initial message to help boot discussion if you like.

The mailing list will be for discussion of ritual, yoga, meditation,
theology, philosophy, and ethics as related to or defined within the various
traditions which have been recently revealed or reconstructed, or which have
been passed down through underground organizations (Masonic or otherwise),
or which do not fit these criteria but believe that we live in a New Age in
some "spiritual" sense. "Traditions" is here used in a very loose sense,
and may refer to an individual's system of beliefs, not any group's, in some
cases. Is that unclear enough, or should I add more obfuscation?

I do not intend to censor messages or to restrict membership to members of
any single religion, path, faith, way, belief, methodology, revelation, or
what have you. The only restriction is that if several members complain
about doggedly persistent attack, e.g., someone sending a message every few
days telling us we're all devil worshippers, then I will ask the person to
stop, and I will threaten him or her with unspeakable torment. If he or she
persists, I will render them an it. Otherwise, all messages sent to me and
noted as being for the list will be appended to the digest, which I will
send as traffic warrants.

I regret that at present all messages should go to me, and there is no
mailing alias for the list.
