Dave, I believe Buddhists would dis-agree very strongly with your statements. Shakyamuni Buddha gained "perfect enlightenment" on Dec 8th in the 6th century B.C. There are probably more groups who have "Holy Days" (holidays) in December. What about the "pagan" feasts during the winter solstice? Anyone else know of other "holidays" which occur during December? I would also point out that there is the Winter Solstice in here somewhere, celebrated by druids around the world. Also, Saturnalia, which was the winter festival celebrated in Rome, which happens to fall on December 25. In fact, Christians celebrate Christs birthday on December 25 not because He was born then, but because it was a Roman holiday that they could use to hide their own celebrations of the birth. At the time, both celebrating Christ's birth and being Christian made you candidates for lion food. Some Christians, in their lack of tolerance for cults and other faiths and their zeal to convert, ought to remember that they were once a cult-- maybe not a People's Temple, but the powers that be of THAT time, thought so... chuq (to you in love and tolerance) -- From behind the bar at Callahan's: Chuq Von Rospach {allegra,cbosgd,decwrl,hplabs,ihnp4,seismo}!nsc!chuqui nsc!chuqui@decwrl.ARPA The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones.
