OK, I did: "1. the study of standards of conduct and moral judgement;
moral philosophy. 2. a treatise on this study 3. the system or code
of morals of a particular person, religion group, profession, etc."
[ Webster's New World Dictionary ]

I'm still not getting the 'search for truth presupposes ethics' part.
It seems that the search for truth can be quite unethical (eg,
medical experiments of Nazis). Maybe I have the wrong dictionary.

(I didn't fall asleep in my liberal arts classes, I dropped out of
them! In particular I didn't like the "Ethics" class because
my first question was "Why be ethical(moral)?" and the instructor
didn't want to answer that one (yet). So I saw no point in going).

These words should be bronzed.
