There are a number of extended pieces that I haven't seen mentioned, so I thought I'd bring them up. Some are a bit close to the borderlines of rock and other genres, but that's fine -- we're supposed to be eclectic around here, aren't we. . . Most, but not all, of Mike Oldfield's material has been fairly lengthy pieces. These include: Tubular Bells (original edition) Hergest Ridge Ommadawn Tubular Bells (orchestral version) Incantations Exposed (live double, w/ Tubular Bells and Incantations) QE2 Platinum/Airborne Five Miles Out Crises Some of Caravan's work was in the longer realms, including stuff from In the Land of Grey and Pink and from their live album, Caravan and the New Symphonia. There are a few albums by Gary Burton/Larry Coryell/Steve Swallow, with performances of lengthy pieces by Carla Bley. The best, to my mind, is "Genuine Tong Funeral". Probably out of print, but worth hunting up. Almost anything by Oregon, or by its members (Ralph Towner, Paul McCandless, Glen Moore, and the late Colin Walcott); this includes several spinoff groups like Codona, and the material by the Paul Winter Consort when the Oregon folks were still with that band. David Bedford's longer pieces are often interesting, though they lean to the classical side. Usually, Oldfield is involved with them. Try Star's End or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
