You might be interested to know that Mary Daly is **still** givin' them hell
at Boston College. She is also a frequent lecturer in the Boston area.

Her new book is called "Pure Lust" and looks, in part, at how words in many
lanugages have had their meanings changed over the centuries, and have been
used against women (the only example I can remember off the top of my head is
that the French "proud femme" was an honorary term, meaning good woman, it
got changed into "prude" which is less than complimentary; the book has many,
many examples, and will send you to the dictionary constantly). Like her other
writings, this one is hard to read, and requires lots of thinking, re-reading
and discussing with others.

If you ever have the opportunity to hear her speak, don't pass it up...she's
incredible!

The comments on Mary Daly lead me to wonder -- is it possible (that is, do
the dates allow it?) that she was a/the model for the charismatic
feminist leader character "Jenny Fields" in THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP?
(I hope I'm remembering the name right -- basing this on the movie,
rather than the book, always a dangerous action...:-)

The descriptions of her I'm seeing here lead me to think of that character,
which is what brought the possibility to mind.
