[net.religion] Mormon salvation doctrine

tim@cmu-cs-k.ARPA (Tim Maroney) (03/14/85)

I have received several letters in response to my correction of Karen's lie.
(If you've forgotten, her lie was that Mormons believe only Mormons will go
to Heaven.) All the letters were from fundamentalist Protestants. All
repeated the lie. Most included some snide comment to the effect that
"you'd better talk to some Mormon missionaries if you think Mormons say
everyone is going to Heaven."

Well, look, you jerks, my information comes from exactly that source, Mormon
missionaries. They do indeed believe that everyone except apostates (and
even then only apostates who had attained high rank in the Mormon church) is
going to Heaven. The good Mormons get the best places, natch, but
everybody's still there. Period. That is the doctrine they have whether
you like it or not.

Now, please get off my case with your prejudices and falsehoods. I would
recommend better research before you make idiots of yourselves again; but I
know that the next time you read some Protestant bigot's lying rantings
about other people's religions, you'll believe that too.

I would suggest you try reading the Book of Mormon, The History of the Church,
The Doctrines and Covenants, etc. instead of quoting Mormon missionaries. I
think you'll get a better idea of their doctrine from these sources.

By the way, Tim, I have read some of their own material and I agree with Laura
on the subject.
