[net.religion] Saving Laura Creighton a trip to the library.

Or, Tim Maroney displays himself for the ignorant ass he really is.

Regarding the question of by whom and when it was said of Jews that God never
hears their prayers:

Tim says: "Totally false, as anyone not cursed with a selective memory knows."
Falwell said . . . (the above comment) . . . and now has to be more careful
about revealing his true opinions."

Well Tim. Who's cursed with a selective memory???? Who's got to be more
careful about revealing their TRUE opinions???

I refer to JERRY FALWELL AND THE JEWS, Merrill Simon, (Jonathan Davie Pub.,NY
1984. p.19) An excellent book, by the way. It is in a question and answer
format and the questioner, Merrill Simon, is an Israeli Jew, a well known
political writer in Israel who is no friend of Falwell's and asks some hard
questions. The kind YOU would like to ask good old Jerry if you had the
chance. Merrill comes out different than he was going into the book - which
is quite something to say, eh? He sees some good in Jerry!!

Anyway, p 19.

[Merrill asks] "In light of your feelings about the Covenant and your
commitment to the Jewish People, how would you react to the statement that
was made at the National Affairs Briefing by Pastor Bailey Smith who said,
'God Almighty does not hear the prayer of a Jew'?"

[Jerry responds:]
"How would I respond to it? I've done it as least five times a day since he
made it! I think it was an unfortunate statement because it conveyed an
arrogant and belligerent spirit when carried by the national media. If he
had made that statement at First Baptist Church in Del City, Oklahoma, from
a theological perspective, no significant rupture would have occured between
Christians and Jews. I happen to know Bailey Smith personally and I want to
say this in his defense. He is a very gracious person. He is not anti-Semitic.
He is not arrogant. He has long since corrected this schism. He has gone
to the Jewish leadership and cleared the air. In a very positive way, God
used this incident to build a bridge between him as the President of the
Southern Baptist Convention representing 13 million Americans and the Jewish
leadership. This bridge might not have been there if the crisis had not
occured."

Isn't it time for Tim Maroney to publicly apologize to Karen??? I mean, he
jumped all over her for what he saw as her not having the facts staight about
Mormons, etc. Remember Tim??? So where is that apology???? My money says
you're not big enough to come across with one.

Regards,

Ken Arndt

It is amusing that Ken indignantly demanded an apology for a small factual
error some days after I had already done so. Thank you for providing
corroboration for my claim in the apology that Falwell refused to repudiate
the anti-Semitic comment.

As for apologizing to Karen: For what? As you'll recall, she read about
Mormonism from anti-Mormon hate literature and presented her falsehoods as
facts, and refused to issue a retraction when her lies were pointed out. I
must admit that I fail to see the analogy.
