[net.religion] Lord Frith replies to Marc Terribile....

For some reason this could not be delivered via mail....

Subject: re: Re: Did Lord Frith make the world?

Let me point out that we don't know what we could do if we ever
stopped spending so much effort killing each other -- and
trying to keep from being killed. If muggings on the subways
stopped. If war or the threat of war ceased to be a reality.
	If ...

No complaint there. I'm no pessimist. But the problem here is that
Mr. Harwood insists that ALL suffering is not only our repsonsibility
(our responsibility soley), but also our causal fault. Neither is
substantiated by the facts.

I agree that it is man's repsonsibility to help his brother ("Am I my
bother's keeper?"), however that does not excuse anyone for the claims
that ALL suffering of any kind can be eliminated simply by throwing
money and effort at the problem. Additionally he claims that if there
is any suffering remaining then it is for a good purpose, even though
that suffering is undesigned and is man-made.

These solutions are only possible to an omnipotent and omniscient being
that decides it will administrate such a solution. The conclusion
should be that it is God, and not man, can establish heaven. I
clearly pointed this out but Mr. Harwood ignored it entirely.

If the trillions that the powers and superpowers of this world
spent on weaponry could be spent instead on finding ways to
relieve human misery, we could get pretty close to the
	``impossible'' goals.

Pretty close does not vindicate Harwood's thesis of "man is the
direct cause of all suffering." Nor the solution that he is it's
sole solution.

Until human nature changes, however, I don't think it
	will happen.

Agreed. It takes more than mechanical solutions to end suffering
and make the world "right" however. Haber tried... and blew it.

It might be interesting to see if man could overcome suffering by
maturing to the point where suffering simply didn't matter; Fear, pain
and various self-destructive tendencies all bred out of the race. A
planet populated by people with blissful and knowing smiles on their
faces....
