I read, somewhere, that 1200 baud modems squeeze more bits into a limited bandwidth by using phase shift modulation with 4 possible phase shifts. I don't remember if they use any other means to squeeze more bits in. It doesn't really matter. It is clear that 1200 baud modems transmit information in base "n", where "n" is at least 4. Yet it's also clear from the Bible that God only approves of binary communications. But let your communications be, Yea, Yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
