[net.religion] Christians and other barbarians

sam@bu-cs.UUCP (Shelli Meyers) (05/20/85)

I have only recently begun to read articles in the newsgroup, and
repeatedly find myself personally offended at the constant comparison
with nuclear weapon "advocates" and the anti-Christ. While it is sad
that mankind has abused the technology he has developed, we MUST accept
the fact that nuclear weapons EXIST, and the only "solution" is to work
from the present situation. If we do the "moral" thing, and just eliminate
all of our nuclear warheads, we 1) lose the ability to defend the helpless,
who would be the first victims of looters once a world power had layed
down and died, and 2) lose all ability to defend ourselves. WE (the U.S.)
might do the "Christian" thing...and be committing suicide.

I consider myself a good Christian. I am also in the Air Force. And
I would challenge anyone who would tell me that my career is not in keeping
with the will of God. If, by contributing the great deterrence of world
war--this country's military, I in some small way effect a change which
might someday prevent worldwide disaster, I have indeed served God.
