It seems to me that any movement... religious or political or whatever
that does take itself too seriously is in BIG trouble...
So I offer this levity in the spirit of ecumenical I-Told-You-So-ism....
I have been reading the recent postings that Flame and flame....
that insult other peoples belief systems or level of understanding,
and I guess I just don't understand what the point of it is?
Personally I think that ther is no objective evidence for ANY revealed
scriptures, and that the subjective proof of validity for same is only valuable
to the reciever!... I know that there are lots of folks who want to believe
in one doctrine or another and I don't see it as my job to chop away at anyone
elses faith! If they Tell me that I'm wrong or deluded or stupid... then I
have a right to disagree, I even have the right to tell others how much I
disagree and give supporting evidence of my point of view. But in no way
do I have the right to brow beat any one with it. Flaming and sarcasm have
never acomplished anything positive for me, and I'll admit to devoting a lot
of my energy towards that methodology in the past.Mayby I'v grown older
and wiser, mayby I'm too lazy to fight now, but I no longer gain any kind
of self satisfaction from contention. The spirit which imbues the human being
is capable of tremendous diversity, thats for sure... Do we need to fight
about it??
If you have a totally scientific - rationalist world view- with no place
for religious belief of any kind then why are you beating your drum in
net.religion? If you have a point to make then I say welcome lets hear it , if
you want to ridicule sincere folks, then why?... I know that some of the ideas
promoted here are ridiculous... often highly inflamatory, and i agree that many
of them deserve comment,how about doing it without malace though... OK..
I must make it clear that I am not a christian, i am a Pagan. I find nothing
of value in the Xtian system ***FOR ME***
I personally think that Xtianity has been excesivly harmfull to humanity
looking at it from a historical view!
And I am easily annoyed by Bible thumping Evangelists who dismiss my spiritual
path as Evil and unworthy of examination while it is they who uphold a secular
tradition built on the blood and body of their "enemies"
But I refuse to fall into th trap of fighting back...When accosted by an
individual who is selling his brand of religion... I tend to advise them that
I already have a satisfactory belief system, and that I don't want to change it.
Common sense tells me that it would be innappropriate to turn on the individual
and attempt to do to him what I have just refused myself.
Well I could go on and I probably will continue to echo the same approach,
I even reserve the right to screw up... I'm human!
