Hearsay from an acquaintance who has ties to the occult
community is that LaVey's Church of Satan, while indeed begun as
a rip-off of the credulous, has since been taken over by the
"real thing," actual practitioners of black magic. I am using
"actual" in the sense that these people seriously believe they
are effectively using malicious energies; I have no data on
their results, but it is said that they managed to freak LaVey
to the point that he has called in the Jesuits on at least one
occasion...to exorcise his church building!!
