[net.religion] God in all and all in God/ Part2

daveh@tekcrl.UUCP (Dave Hatcher) (11/06/85)

In article> <323@tekcrl.UUCP> I asked:

>>>	Why according to the christian faith, the idea that "God is in all
>>>	and all is in God", not a true concept ??

To which Bob answered:

>The statement reduces to God == The Universe which is a very good
>Hindu concept so I'm told. I think the technical term for
>it is pantheistic monism.

>The Christian (and I think the Jewish) God is both Immanent
>(He has the ability to be present everywhere) yet at the same
>time He is believed to be Transcendent, that is, He is distinctly
>separate from His Creation.

>Please let's hear from our Seminarians and Rabbinical students
>on this one.

When ever I ask christians about "God in all and all in God" the answer
is always:
>The statement reduces to God == The Universe which is a very good
>Hindu concept.......
With Hindu spoken very icy; like its the devil it self.

So Part 2 of my question about "God in all and all in God"...

What are the perceived differences in ones relationship
with God, when this idea is held, vs. the christian idea?
Why is Hinduism looked down on so much?
How many other religions endorse the idea that "God is in
	 all and all in God"?

In a follow-up article Bob added:

>How incredibly Christocentric of me !!

>If there any followers of other Eastern religions
>besides Judaism and Christianity who probably have
>a good insight into God == The Universe please
>contribute your thoughts.

I also would like this discussion to include other religious thoughts.

Thank you Bob for your input!

Dave,

Thanks for you re response.

But...give a me b-rake Dave.

I said that the God == Universe was a Hindu concept in
a qualified manner because I don't know a lot about Hinduism
and I wanted to leave myself some room to be wrong. You got
you a Hindu shaped chip on your shoulder Bubba.

P.S. From what little I know about Hinduism, I'm not real excited
about going a whole lot further but I'm not looking down on them.
