[net.philosophy] Newton's lost literature

dir (04/07/83)

Does anyone know if any of Issac Newton's writings on alchemy and
mysticism have been translated from the original Latin into English?
And if so, are these writings in print and available?

I've read that Newton wrote several volumes on mystical
topics as well as on "natural" ones (like calculus
and the laws of motion), but the lesser known manuscripts
languish in Cambridge University's vaults.

(I've also read that one reason these writings aren't well known
is that Newton is considered one of the fathers of modern science
and it wouldn't look good for him to have seriously considered
supernatural topics.)
