[net.philosophy] from Paul Torek #11 -- love

The header is still too baroque for my taste. people who are still confused
as to how Paul Torek can be in Maryland and Toronto at once -- it works
by magic. (and has the side-effect of confusing the newsstats, gotta
keep working on those side effects!)	Laura Creighton

Yes, one can love a cat just as much as one loves humans. Yes, one can have
emotional attachments to objects, although I think it is unhealthy to love
an object in the fullest sense that one can love a human.

The differences Tom Craver points to between love for humans and for objects
are important, but I don't think they explain the whole difference. The big
difference I see is that humans have a welfare that one can care about, but
objects don't (they do, but only metaphorically speaking).
