There was once a scientist who kept a horseshoe fastened above the door of his lab. A friend asked: "Why do you keep a horseshoe fastened above the door of your lab?" The scientist replied: "For good luck, of course." "But surely you don't believe that horseshoes bring good luck. That's just a superstition." "Yes, you're right; it is a superstition." "Well, why do you do it then if you don't believe in it?" "I understand it works whether you believe in it or not."
