[net.philosophy] causality

Mr Ellis's response was very well put. There only remains
the problem of how to "de-causalize" a western mind.

The causal model of the universe requires a detached observer.
That is, you must be capable of forbearing to take part in
what you observe. The best way to acquire this habit is to
read print - in large quantities. Psychological studies have
shown that even in the act of reading, your eye must focus
in front of the page, not on it. Thus your vision becomes
habitually "detached" from what it is seeing.

In any case, when you're reading you do not take part
in what is happening - you merely sit still.

Actually, the only reason I can think of to challenge
belief in causality is that those who believe in
causality tend to act mechanically. But this is
very hard to demonstrate!
