[net.philosophy] Free Will and all that

showard@udenva.UUCP (showard) (04/25/85)

[always hit 'n' on anything over 26 lines long--Blore's Theorem]

To: Rich Rosen, Laura Creighton, and all the gang

I know this has been brought up before but aren't you all just playing word
games? There is no possible conclusion to an argument about something as
emotionally-charged [cliche! cliche! buzzword!] as free-will vs. determinism.

Mr. Rosen, can you imagine any argument that Ms. Creighton might present that
would cause you to say, "Oh. By golly, you're right. People do have free
will after all."? Ms. Creighton, can you think of any argument Mr. Rosen
might present that would cause you to have a similar reaction?

To quote from the inimitable David Byrne: "You're talking a lot, but you're
not saying anything." For the required Monty Python quote: "The human brain
is remarkably like a fish. It is flat and slimy and has gills through which
it can see."
