My Prometheus Books Spring/Summer 1986 catalog has arrived. Prometheus
Books is a specialty publisher that emphasizes skeptical, agnostic, atheistic,
freethinking, humanist, health issues, and other non-mainstream categories of
works.

Many of us who have unusual beliefs are unaware of how much has been written
about our ideas, and how many people think similarly. This catalog can
provide pointers to the rest of the world of critical, non-traditional thinking.

Here is a short list of some titles that piqued my interest (uh oh, better
not reveal too much.... :-)

"Bertrand Russell on God and Religion" Al Seckel, ed.
"Christian Science" (debunking) Mark Twain
"Jesus in History and Myth" J. Hoffman + G. Larue eds.
"UFOs: the Public Deceived" (debunking) Philip Klass
"The Mind of the Bible-Believer" (psychology) Edmund Cohen
"Science Confronts the Paranormal" (debunking) Kendrick Frazier, ed.
"A Skeptic's Handbook of Parapsychology" Paul Kurtz, ed.
"The Encyclopedia of Unbelief" (history) Gordon Stein, ed.
"Physician, Heal Thyself" (faith healing) John Allegro
"Flim Flam!" (debunking of paranormal claims) James Randi
"The Art of Deception" (informal logic) Nicholas Capaldi
"Thinking Straight" (fallacies of informal logic) Anthony Flew
"Mark Twain: Selected Writings of an American Skeptic" Victor Doyno, ed.
"In Defense of Secular Humanism" Paul Kurtz
"Trouble Enough: Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon" (history) Ernest Taves
"The Atheist Debater's Handbook" B.C.Johnson

The catalog seems to be free, and the address is:

Prometheus Books
700 East Amherst St.
Buffalo, NY 14215

I have no connection with this organization: they may have gotten my name
from the subscription lists of Scientific American, Free Inquiry, or
The Skeptical Enquirer.
