[net.philosophy] Randian love poetry

weemba@brahms.BERKELEY.EDU (Matthew P. Wiener) (07/16/86)

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
Ah no, it is formed by isolating two or more instances of the
appropriate psychological process, then retaining its
	distinguishing characteristics (an emotion proceeding
from the evaluation of an existent as a positive value
and as a source of pleasure) and omitting the object
	and the measurements of the process's intensity;
Whose worth's known, as measurement is the identification of
a relationship in numerical terms--and the complexity
of the science of measurement indicates the complexity
of the relationships which exist in the universe and
which exist in the universe and which man has barely
	begun to investigate.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

With thanks to Michael Ellis and apologies to a certain old-fashioned mystic
who proclaimed that you cannot measure love in pounds, inches, or dollars.
