References: I came across an excellent article in the first issue of the new journal "Biology + Philosophy" which I highly recommend to those who are interested in the conflict of opinions going on at Harvard between Edward O. Wilson and Richard Lewontin. Ullica Segerstrale, "Colleagues In Conflict: An In-Vivo Analysis Of The Sociobiology Controversy", Biology + Philosophy Vol 1 No 1 1986. The philosophical agendas of both professors are laid bare (with their aid in a number of interviews.) Wilson as a scientific materialist, and Lewontin as a Marxist. My personal preference is Wilson's point of view, and I think he comes off much better than Lewontin (who essentially seems to criticize good science for its possible political abuse.)
