[net.music] Lou Reed, VU

The "new" Velvet Underground album, VU, is excellent. For all you
folks who wonder why the music scene of the 60's was so dynamic
compared to more recent times, give this a listen. It's superb
garage music, all the way. Buck a funch of electro-effects and
re-mixes; this stuff sounds like first take, maybe first try.
On the back we get to see John Cale playing through a vintage
(for lack of a better word) Silvertone 2-12" amplifier, the
last word in garage tonality, and Lou Reed has a Fender whatsit
amp, the one below a Princeton, probably a 5" speaker; we're
talking tubal distortion at 7 or 8 on the volume knob. Teisco
Vee would definitely be seen with these guys. A great album for
those of you who don't think 60's music is just the Allman Bros.
& Jefferson Snoreship.
