[net.micro.apple] macinfo & pointers

[If you read this, you'd be home now (?)]

In response to Kenn the Kenf's request for Macintosh info:
We at Dartmouth aren't exactly swimming in documentation. The
first two Macs showed three days ago; we are still short on hardware,
development software (and developers!), and especially technical info.
The only really interesting thing I haven't seen in print is that
it comes with a cassette and demo diskette to teach you the basics -- a
nice demo, well-narrated. MacPaint & MacWrite also come with a
cassette; I think most packages won't.
Check out the latest BYTE, not yet at the stands I think. Personal
Computing is OK, but BYTE was more in-depth, with more technical stuff
(eg, memory map). Two (!) magazines are out: St.Mac [sic], which looks
blah, and MacWorld, which is good, though it seems more aimed at new
users.  There are also 3 books in ads, 1 or 2 of which are already out;
one is by someone from the Apple's Mac team. I'd be interested if
anyone could review these?
There is also an brochure of some 20 pages, which will be in
magazines in the next month or two. Apple dealers may have these to
give out; they're worth seeing, if only for the mind-blowing graphics.
(N.B.: the Japanese woodcut was digitized, not Macpainted as implied!)
It sounds like hype, but you must see and USE the machine to really
understand it. Photos in brochures just aren't the same, and don't show
you how the elegance or speed, which Lisa-users will love. I hope your
Apple dealer doesn't have too long a line of people waiting to see it...
     More specific questions?

	Just a minor point:
According to our local Apple-rep, ALL software, from Apple and from
third party developers, will come with a cassette, a tutorial diskette,
and a program diskette.
