[net.micro.apple] The Apple //c"s specs

The Apple //e is tricky to use in 80 column mode??? C'mon, gimmie a break!!
For the majority of the software that I use, 80 column mode is the ONLY way to
go. Apple Pascal boots up in 80 columns with no problems whatsoever. (Heck,
I've never even seen Pascal in 40 columns!) Applewriter //e, Prodos, and
MVP Forth all use the 80 column card without a hitch. The only time you will
run into problems with 80 columns is when someone wrote their own character
output routines and wrote them especially for the 40 column screen.

Sitting at my Apple//e, staring at the 80 column screen,

You must never have tried to do anything interesting with peripherals
if you haven't had trouble with the Apple //e 80-column card. It has
several problems:
PR#s where s is not 3 breaks its operation.
The scrolling firmware is too slow for 1200baud modems.
	Wraparound garbages the first column.
There are other problems but these are indicative.

1. What does PR# mean? (only partly :-))
2. Scrolling and wraparound work just fine if you use interrupts.

Doing interesting things with peripherals and unable to remember seeing
my Apple in 40-column mode.
