[net.micro.apple] Apple //e Replacement Power Supplies?

gvw1@ihuxp.UUCP (George V. Wilder) (05/25/84)

I just filled up the last slot in my Apple //e system. I think that I
have detected a power supply problem where, in some cases, the standard
//e power supply doesn't quite have enough capacity. I have a super
serial card in slot 1, Micromodem //e in slot 2, 80 col--extended 64K
card in slot 3 (Aux slot actually, cann't use slot 3), Apple Mouse in
slot 4, Vista 8 inch controller card in slot 5, standard 5 1/4 controller
in slot 6, and a PCPI Appli-Card in slot 7.

I get a disk write error on the 5 1/4's when both drives are active
(actually switching back and forth rapidly). I can work on the 8 inch
drives "all night", or be reading from a 5 1/4 and writing to an 8 inch
drive with no problems. I only have a problem when there is a program
that uses both 5 1/4's (for example, [under CPM] using pip to copy one 5 1/4
to another).

This problem just appeared after I added the Vista card. I suspect that
the total power requirements for the system exceeds the capacity of the
power supply when both 5 1/4's are very busy. I am going to do some
more checking by removing some of the other cards first (I'll leave the
Vista card in to make sure that it's not a software problem).

QUESTION: Are there replacement power supplies that have a larger
capacity than the standard power supply in the Apple //e. Thanks in
advance for any assistance?
