[net.micro.apple] quadlink update

das@ecsvax.UUCP (06/20/84)

Here's an update on Quadlink's ability to cope with copy protected
software and non-DOS operating systems.

There's no reason to think Quadlink would fail to run any 16 sector
Apple operating system. In fact, it works fine with UCSD p-system
Pascal 1.1 and with ADIOS, the enhanced OS from Microsoft that is
needed for running muMath/muSimp without CP/M. (We don't have
CP/M, so I have no idea what Quadlink does with Apple CP/M disks.)
The muMath/muSimp disks are not copy protected, and the whole
system works fine on Quadlink. (Would somebody please report on
the IBM PC version of muMath, preferably with comparison to the
Apple versions?)

The following copy protected software runs without problem on
Quadlink:

  Krell's LOGO
Graphing Equations (instructional games from CONDUIT)
  Interpreting Graphs (ditto)
Screenwriter II (WP from Sierra On-Line)
  General Manager (DBMS " " " )
Super Disk Copy (utility from Sensible Software)
  Multi Disk Catalog (ditto)

The only other copy protected software we use on our Apple is
Softerm II, a communications/terminal emulator package from
Softronics. It DOES NOT WORK on Quadlink, but not because of the
copy protection. It has a keyboard enhancer card to add 3 "shift"
keys, and it bombs when it fails to find the card present. One
might hope to be able to use parts of the package that don't
depend on the extra keys, but no such luck.
