[net.micro.apple] Delay in Mac WORD

nova@abnjh.UUCP (Scott D. Allen) (07/09/84)

[Into the ol' bit bucket]

I called a mail-order software shop called THE BOTTOM LINE (a good shop
by the way) to check on the availability of Microsoft's WORD. They said that
Microsoft had to do a major re-write of the system so it wouldn't be out until
November. I guess they wanted to avoid all the hassles they had with MULTIPLAN.

Can anyone out there confirm/deny this rumor? MACWRITE is okay for home letter
writing but I need WORD for business.

Thanks in Advance,

Scotty

Yes MacWORD is to be delayed. I called Microspft and they confirmed
that there would be a delay. They did say that it would be released in
late August or early September. I do not know whether this is the
correct date or not.

MAJOR FLAME ***** MAJOR FLAME ***** MAJOR FLAME ***** MAJOR FLAME *****
***********************************************************************

Microsoft WORD is going to be COPY PROTECTED (see MacWorld July/August)
and the folks at MS have implemented the copy protect in the following
manner - one can make as many copies of the master disk, but one needs
to start the application with the master disk in the drive. Doesn't
this really defeat the need to make a back-up copy? If your master disk
dies, you STILL can't use WORD anymore.

<END OF FLAME> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF> <EOF><EOF>

By the way, I have tried out MacSLOTS which I just goe and it looks
really great. It costs $77.77 and is available from somewhere - it is
listed in the latest MacWorld and St.Mac issues. Backup copies can be
made as it is not copy protected.

There is also a limited C compiler coming out thi fall from Hippotamous
[sic] Software for $150 and a full professional C compiler coming out
sometime in November or December of this year. I am hoping, oh hoping,
for a real language compiler for the Mac.

Thanks all for now.............................
