[net.micro.apple] Apple Shafts America; or, The Comput

spector@acf4.UUCP (09/19/84)

I have to disagree. You knew what you were getting into when you bought
your Macintosh. No one twisted your arm. And if you calm down for a minute
and look at the market price of chips (256K Drams), Labour, and of course the
money apple is losing in all those mother boards it has to rebuild, you are
getting a good deal for your $995. As I recall the upgrade was rumoured
to cost $1500 -> $1800 range. So count your blessings. I too have to fork
out the $995 to upgrade MY Macintosh, but for the added memopry, speed and
performance its worth it. If you wanted "perfection" you should have bought
an IBM-PC.

Oh, yeah, if you paid the regular price ($2495...) for your Mac, you also
get $250 worth of FREE software; MacProject and MacDraw as I understand.

Also, I don't work for Apple Computer, Inc., or any of its affiliates, etc,
I am just a satisfied Macintosh owner who has a LOT (<- Heavy emphasis) of
fun with his Macintosh!

Sounds like you did *NOT* pay the "regular" price. A good reason
to be satisfied. Those of us who did pay list price, thinking
that the machine would hold its value for a year or so, are feeling
very foolish, indeed.

>I am just a satisfied Macintosh owner who has a LOT (<- Heavy emphasis) of

I had fun with my Mac for a month or so, too. Then I tried to
do some work with it. Then I found out that I had *NOT* known
what I bought. I found out that all of Apple's promised were
lies. No decent software. No development tools. Nothing but
frustration.

If you're doing anything other than playing silly games with
your Mac, please let us know what. And how.

Too the flamers and cryers ...

I don't own a MAC ... but borrow one regularly to do REAL work using
beta copies of MacPlan and MacDraw over the last weeks ... I have few gripes
about the product.

For a machine that has only been out a few months in volume everything seems
to be doing well ... Dozens of packages are hiting the market.

The early IBM PC owners (and those of any other machine I can think of)
went thru worse during the first 12 months of product introduction ...

Apple told no lies from what I can tell from having watched the product
from before it's release .... we all knew from the first day that the
other products from apple were months out from First Customer Ship.

As for the whine about price reductions ... WHAT THE &*^%*&^% are you
(*&^(*&^%$ bitching about .... prices coming down from intial introduction
is a FACT OF LIFE. If you want to talk of depreciation look at the sale
price differential of a new car, mobile home, stero ... to value 12 months
after introduction ... nothings changed in this world.
AND Apple ramped production fast enough not to have the SHORTAGE problems
found for 6-24 months typical of IBM and DEC.

Cry if you wish ... but you are so spoiled as to not know what (troubles)
you have missed. Whats the matter ... doesn't your mother love you?

It's a shame sometimes that the freedom of speech can be used to so widely
bad mouth a supplier who is bending over backward to give us a better product
than the IBM PC (its clones) and simular outdated 1970's products that are
1980's trash.

[ Go Macintosh! ]

Its nice to see a few people agree with me, but for those of you who are
still torqued about the value of your 128K Mac going down the tubes, look
on the bright side. At least you didn't but an IBM-PC/xt the day before
they announced the price cuts and the new PC/at. Those folks really took
a bath. And I still say we're getting a decent price for more memory, better
performance, et al.
(By the way, anyone got $995 I can borrow for my Macintosh's upgrade? ;-)
