References: [parity error 02] Last fall I went out on a limb and predicted that it was foolish for any college to depend on MACs in 1984-85 for large numbers of college students. I predicted that the MAC would not come out soon enough, that reliable software would not be adequately available for this semester, and that colleges making the early purchases of MACs in quantity would find they had a lot of white elephants on their hands for a while. Apple has clearly done a much better job than I expected bringing out a reliable MAC. Some good software packages at least are available. Now I would appreciate hearing from people at schools (like Dartmouth) that counted on the MAC to serve many students. I will be glad to summarize private responses to the net. How do you like the MAC? What are you able to do with it? Do you know many students who are using MACs regularly in their work? Do you wish your college had emphasized a different machine? If so, which one? If you write to me, please indicate your the degree of computer literacy. It seems to me from information I have collected so far that some of the happiest MAC users are computer jockeys with access to as-yet-unreleased MAC software. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison or: decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison or (emergency): princeton!eosp1!robison
