Request for hookup information between an Apple Communications Card and a Volksmodem. I recently purchased both a Volksmodem and an Apple Comm Card. I wished to use this combination as a low cost entry into "telecomputing." However I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get this pair to work together. The Apple Comm Card not actually a true Apple Computer product but rather a look-a-like (This may be the problem, but ProDOS does recognize it as a Communications Card from the slot contents command). I have been trying to understand RS-232 and what signals are produced and required by both the Volskmodem and the Comm Card. I have tried several connections, which I considered reasonable, but to no avail. I have even consulted M. D. Seyer's book "RS-232 Made Easy" with no luck. I have been able to use the Volksmodem with an Apple Super Serial Card (not mine), which provides a few more signals than the Comm Card, so I know the Volksmodem does work. If anyone out there has gotten this combination to work or has any constructive ideas on the subject I would be happy to hear from you. I will readily admit that I do not have a complete comprehension of RS-232 and I may be missing something basic in the connections.
