MacTerminal 1.1 disk buzz annonyance. I have finally received the first "real" release of MacTerminal from my Apple dealer. (Paid for it in February -- yes, I know that was stupid). It comes with a coupon to send in to get the "real, final" instruction book -- though the one that comes with it seems fine. It seems OK. There is one incredibly annonying bug however: When in the "DON'T Record lines off top" mode, when nothing has come out on the screen for about 8 seconds, the floppy is spun up and down. Think about it. Most of the time, one is typing or receiving output. When you stop to think about something, just when you really start concentrating: BUZZ. As far as I can tell, nothing is actually being written on the disk (there is certainly no need to in this mode). A crufty pre-release I begged from my dealer had other problems, but not this one. Anybody know a solution? I have resorted to popping the disk (once MacTerminal is going) via the paper clip trick. This works as long as you remember to push the disk back again before mousing around with anything that actually needs the disk. Hardly a nice solution. Paul Rutter

The story seems to be that MacTerminal is trying to keep a consistent copy of the screen on the disk so that if the power fails, things look the same as when you left when you restart. I find the buzz annoying too---I'd suggest you call or write Apple to suggest that it at least be made a setup option. --Rick
